Book Harvest & Book Babies

Book Harvest is committed to ensuring that all children have access to free, age-appropriate and culturally inclusive children’s books.

Families can visit Book Harvest in Durham to select books and engage in quality family time. The Book Harvest Family Space is a colorful area full of free books, wall toys, a magnet wall, reading nooks, puppets and more–all designed to make it easy for children and families to play, learn and read together.

Outside the Family Space there is a bookshelf filled with books in English and Spanish for children ages 0-18; it is accessible 24/7 and restocked regularly. Through partnerships with organizations, schools and businesses, Book Harvest also stocks dozens of bookshelves and Book Boxes across Durham. Families and children are invited to select books from these Book Hubs to take home and keep forever.

Book Babies is a program that partners with parents of newborns, equipping them with the tools they need to prepare their children for kindergarten and beyond. This groundbreaking home visiting program provides quarterly customized literacy coaching and 20 new, age-appropriate books to participating children and parents every year from birth until their children start kindergarten.
