Durham Children’s Initiative

Durham Children’s Initiative (formerly EDCI) is a community-based nonprofit that exists to build pathways to equity. DCI envisions a world where every youth graduates from high school ready for college or career. Every child, parent and caregiver deserve support, access to resources, and opportunities to succeed. That’s why DCI exists—to EDUCATE, EQUIP, and EMPOWER children and families for a more EQUITABLE Durham.

DCI’s unique Family Advocate program provides enrolled families with an advocate who connects with the family and guides them to community resources, training, and enrichment opportunities. Family Advocates help build bridges for families as they journey through life and manage the challenges of raising and supporting their children and youth. DCI collaborates with community partners to fulfill its mission of creating a pipeline of high-quality services for youth and their families so they will overcome the barriers to their success.
