Parent Groups
Parent groups offer an opportunity to meet other parents who share similar experiences, provide or receive informal and mutual support, discuss parenting challenges, and learn parenting strategies.
The following programs facilitate parent groups online and/or in person.
Durham Resources
El Centro Hispano
A Latino nonprofit organization providing a variety of support and opportunities to Latinx families in the Triangle.
Empowered Parents in Community (EPiC)
EPiC organizes and supports Black parents and their allies in its mission to dismantle systemic racial inequities and advocate for high quality educational opportunities.
Family Support Network of NC
Network of peer support for families of children with special needs, led by parents with lived experience.
Fatherhood of Durham
Working with fathers to develop life skills necessary to face financial, health, relationship and other critical challenges.
H.E.A.R.T.S. (Helping Each Adolescent Reach Their Spark)
H.E.A.R.T.S. supports young adolescent parents and pregnant people with tools to successfully become independent and self-sufficient.
La Leche League
Peer to peer lactation support for breastfeeding families, regardless of whether they are facing challenges or simply seeking to connect with others
Milestones Pediatric and Maternal Nutrition
Free Breastfeeding Support Groups provide the opportunity to talk directly with an IBCLC, complete a weighted feeding session, and connect with other moms
Post Adoption Support Services (PASS)
Offering a variety of free support services to any family that has adopted a child in Durham and 19 other NC counties
Postpartum Support International
HelpLine (text/call support) and comprehensive support network, including support groups and additional resources, for parents facing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders or struggles in the transition to parenthood.
Triangle Area Parenting Support (TAPS)
Free or low-cost weekly parenting support groups to make new friends, learn about child development, and build community support.
Triple P
A parenting support program designed to be flexible and meet parents (of children 0-16) where they are; provides targeted tips and strategies to manage behavior and build parents’ confidence.
Village of Wisdom
Organizing work with Black families to support positive racial self concept, increase capacity to navigate and cope with racial bias, and build community connections and advocacy skills
